Project Team

Studio Essence in collaboration with Studio Scattershot

The nursing home is designed to provide a comfortable, safe, and homely environment for the patients, which would help promote their well-being and quality of life. Along with this,  the clinic is designed to be a familiar and welcoming space, with a reception, waiting area and consultation room.

It is designed to provide a comfortable and homely environment for residents, with access to high-quality medical care and support from doctors. The clinic and outpatient facilities are designed to provide a seamless and integrated approach to medical care, ensuring that the patients receive the best possible care and support.

The site had an overarching feeling of being dull and lifeless.

The first step was observing the site and its surroundings to gain a sense of the people and activities in and around the site. Sketches were done on the site to identify the feelings of site. However, the site wasn't as evocative and didn't offer any strong hints or anchors. Therefore, the idea was to not retain the feel of the site and rather evoke the opposite emotions as opposed to now.

The table was filled as a part of collaboration.

After filling the table, the keyword- Familiarity was identified as the over-arching feeling of the project. Accordingly, the program brief was formulated. The project was designed keeping the keyword in mind.

Design ideas were explored using sktches and model.

First, a group of people who would potentially use the nursing home was identified within the neighbourhood. Next, the quality of the living spaces and surroundings of their homes was analyzed and drawn. The sketches primarily depicted the types of homes and surrounding spaces that the people were familiar with, in order to better understand the existing quality of these spaces.

The nursing home consists of several different areas, including sleeping spaces, common areas, and outdoor spaces. The sleeping spaces are designed to provide comfort and privacy for the inpatients.

The common areas encourage social interaction and community living. The patients can relax and enjoy the fresh air in several outdoor seating areas and gardens. The open areas provide a range of sensory experiences, with different colours, textures, and scents, which would help to promote well-being and reduce stress.

The clinic is a comfortable and welcoming space, with a reception area, waiting room and consultation rooms. The consultation rooms provide a calm and private environment for patients to meet doctors.

The spaces are designed in a way that focuses on creating a sense of belonging and comfort. The building has a domestic scale to it, with pitched roofs and a mix of materials, such as brick, timber, and steel.

Collaboration with Studio Scattershot

The project was able to achieve the design output from added strengths of both practices. While the desired spatiality was achieved, it was also designed socially conscious

The given program and site weren’t much evocative therefore collaboration helped in achieving the output through the program as it was quite specific to the social issue.

The practice can do such collaborations with the practices specializing in certain areas in such scenarios unless there’s no negotiation in the design. In that case, the process could tweak a bit without compromising the ideology.
